Parent Suggestions for Idaho Dance Fest:

Dance Competitions are fast paced and can be stressful- especially if you forget something!  Don’t get caught without the essentials.  Here is a list of items that you might want to remember to bring with you!  Good Luck!

Costumes: Ok, this might seem obvious- but don’t forget your costumes- which often include many accessories.  One way to insure you don’t forget anything is to write a list of what the costume entails including hair, tights, shoes, make-up and any accessories.  Gather the said items into a large zip-lock bag and place with the costume itself.  Make sure you extra pairs of tights if they are part of the costume in case you get a run or a hole.

Makeup: Make sure that you have all the right makeup.  Remember that you may need makeup, removing wipes, cotton balls, Q-tips, special body glitter, and makeup applicators.  If you are going to use fake eyelashes, make sure that you have extras on hand along with the glue that you need for application.

Hair accessories: In another bag, you need to organize your hair accessories. This includes making sure that you have bobbie pins in the right color and size and hair bands in all sizes and colors.  It might be a good idea to use clear plastic bands because you cannot see them and you can use a small pair of scissors to quickly cut them out of the hair between changes.  Now this is really, really important!  Make sure you have enough hairspray and hair gel in your bag.  Hair and make-up are largely up to the dance instructor, so be sure and have correct instructions from them as far as these changes go, and then plan accordingly.

First aid kit: It is always important to have a small first aid kit. Items that you might want to bring along included baby wipes, tissues, Neosporin or other antibacterial first aid ointment, Tylenol, Band-Aids, bandages, instant ice packs, tweezers and a small pair of scissors.

Additional items:

  • Safety pins
  • Double-sided tape
  • Hot glue gun
  • Small sewing kit

Make sure that all of your items are clearly labeled with your name and dance studio's name and phone number and that your bag is well organized so that you can find exactly what you need on a moments notice.
